District Sample Sale, March 16, 2010

We know, we know. It might seem like paying to go sale-shopping is sort of counterproductive. But the District Sample Sale is not just any sale.
First of all, it's a pretty decent party, with an open bar, tons of yummy appetizers and a never-ending torrent of cupcakes. The event takes place throughout a huge, gorgeous Georgetown house (OK, it's sort of two houses -- or three -- put together) at 3336 M St. N.W. There's usually juuuust enough room to snag a high table to sip your champagne at while you internally debate your fiscal irresponsibility -- but do it after you've torn through display after display. There's no time to waste here!
Tons of local boutiques -- including Proper Topper, Sangaree, Urban Chic and Wink -- bring their unsold merch to the twice-annual sale. You can snap up serious deals on designer brands that often include Theory, Milly, Vivienne Tam and more.
Tickets are $40 for general admission (6:30-9:20 p.m.) or $100 for the VIP, which gets you in an hour ahead of the riffraff, and also entitles you to a pretty sweet gift bag. Ticket proceeds always go to charity; this time around it's CityDance Early Arts, which helps kids from D.C.'s most underserved neighborhoods gain access to free dance classes and shows. by " Carissa Dimargo"

The District Sample Sale is located at:
3336 M Street, NW
Georgetown, DC
Parking garage located across the street.

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE OPENING EVENT HAS BEEN MOVED TO SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH.
Changes to dates and program can also be viewed HERE.

----------
Starting Saturday, February 13th ReadysetDC will co-host ACTIVATION 2719 with No Kings Collective.

ACTIVATION 2719 is a pop-up gallery, located in Columbia Heights at 2719 13th Street NW, at the corner of 13th & Girard Streets NW. The show's opening event will start at 6PM on Saturday, February 13th and end at 11PM. The participating artists are Tim “Con” Conlon, DECOY, James Walker, Emily Green Liddle, Bryan Rojsuontikul, Aniekan Udofia as well as No Kings Collective themselves Brandon Hill, Francisco Esteban and Peter Chang.

Activation 2719 is a rare opportunity for the artist to curate themselves, with themes that reflect their own personal style and background. Artist were asked to produce ‘site specific’ small collections of work to best be reflective of what makes their work both current and cutting edge. The range of works, genres, and mediums within Activation 2719 are as diverse as the artist themselves. These artists are contemporary in their niche while also pushing boundaries in art, both local and nationally. The common thread of these artists is their instantly recognizable use of intense color and topics within in their works, from the dynamic clean duct tape works and installations of artist Bryan Rojsuontikul to the graphic pen style and social commentary seen within the work of Aniekan Udofia. Activation 2719 promises to be unforgettable merger of style and character. The opening event will start at 6pm and will include a bar, food provided by Commonwealth Gastropub, and musical entertainment for the evening. Music on the 6th will be performed by DJ Fleg and also DJ Tom Lim, with a special vocal performance by Sheena Alexis. Additional sponsorship provided by Fathom Creative.
