Dear Friends,

This historic summer in Washington, DC our Centennial Conference will bring together an extraordinary group of the nation’s leading business, community, and political figures. We are excited to celebrate this monumental milestone with you—a 100 years of empowering communities and changing lives. Empowerment Time: Past, Present & Future is this year’s conference theme and signifies the progress and promise of the National Urban League movement.
Invited guests joining our Centennial  celebrations include the President and First Lady of the United States of America. Our host Maudine R. Cooper, President and CEO of the Greater Washington Urban League. will be among the honorable guest speakers to address the conference, including National Urban League Presidents Vernon E. Jordan, Hugh B. Price and John E. Jacob, reflecting on the past and charting the course for the future. Engaging discussions with activists ranging from Ambassador Andrew Young to Marian Wright Edelman, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Debra Lee (BET) and political strategist Jamal Simmons will impart insights and innovative solutions to the critical issues that our communities continue to face.
Our dynamic plenary sessions and workshops will also address the emerging green and global economy, as well as focus on how to achieve the four aspirational goals of the I AM EMPOWERED campaign: education, employment, housing and healthcare for all Americans by 2025. The highly anticipated Career Fair at this year’s Empowerment Time conference will feature workshops on professional development, and provide one-on-one career counseling with industry experts to ensure your personal goals are achieved. Be sure to visit our special Centennial Exhibit and the eStore, offering special commemorative merchandise as well as the 2010 edition of The State of Black America report.

Beyond our informative sessions and power-packed workshops, we will honor influential leaders within the African American community with our Legend Award for their exceptional work, including Attorney General Eric Holder, Stevie Wonder and Dr. Maya Angelou. You will also be entertained by the soulful sounds of R&B singers, Tamia and Charlie Wilson, among other world-class performers.

We would like to express our gratitude to all of our Centennial Sponsors whose support has made this historic conference possible. We look forward to seeing you, your family, friends and professional colleagues at this empowering and memorable event in Washington, DC.
