In recognition of Caribbean American Heritage Month in June, AFI Silver is proud to once again host screenings of the DC Caribbean Filmfest, now in its 10th year.
The festival is co-presented by Caribbean Association of World Bank and IMF Staff (CAWI), Caribbean Professional Network (CPN), Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) and TransAfrica Forum.

ON THE VERGE OF A FEVER [Le goût des jeunes filles]
Taking place in 1971, in the chaotic days after the death of dictator "Papa Doc" Duvalier, this is the coming-of-age story of 15-year-old Fanfan, who, despite the political chaos and armed clashes around him, is mainly concerned with losing his virginity. When Fanfan is falsely implicated in an incident involving the Tonton Macoutes (the infamous paramilitary enforcers of the Duvalier regimes), he finds refuge in the brothel across the street. Based on the novel Le goût des jeunes filles by Haitian author Dany Laferrière.

The Garifuna, an Afro-Indigenous people exiled from the Caribbean to the coast of Central America in 1798, have carried on a rich and vibrant culture whose expression is found in the electric sound called 'punta rock' and the more soulful 'paranda.' This documentary explores the role of the music in the cultural renaissance of ethnic communities in Belize. Features Garifuna great Andy Palacio.
