Lovely weekend!

It is always nice to spend time with your family. My mother flew in from St. louis, Mo this weekend. As a bonus to all of that Saturday night my older sister, her husband and our mother treated the youngest ( that would be me) to a good home cooked meal. Seafood! Oh yeah! Thx guys!
Sunday we were  going to try an make it to Mrs. K's Toll House for brunch but unfortanely we were unable to. I have never been to Ms. K's but I hear that the food is amazing! So if you are ever in the Silver Spring area please go down and check out Mrs. K's. http://www.mrsks.com/. After missing brunch, we decided to head over to Eastern Market to check out some vendors. Eastern Market is an area were you are always able to find fresh fruit, vegetables, seafood and a variety of meats. You also have the option of browsing around for handmade jewelry, beautiful scarves, old radio's from the 1920's era,  retro furniture and wall decor. Eastern Market has everything http://www.easternmarketdc.com/

After browsing Eastern Market we decided to drive down to the White House, hoping that maybe just maybe we would be able to get a glance and a pic of the Obama's! Unfortnately Not! But at least I was able to get a great pic of the White House! Hope that you enjoy it!

We ended our beautiful Sunday by heading over to Georgia Brown's http://www.gbrowns.com/. Because  I have heard so much about Georgia Brown's and I have always wanted to know what was the hype behind it. I mean yes it is southern cuisine. But growing up in St. Louis and my mother being originally from Mississippi I have had soul food ( no comparison). I have attached a pic at the bottom of my order of Southern Fried Chicken and although the pic's image may lead you to believe that the food was yummy by all means NO! I would have to say that if you are looking for some good Soul Food Cuisine then please check out the Art and Soul Restaurant located inside of the Liaison hotel  http://www.artandsouldc.com/. Chef Art Smith lives up to the meaning of soul food. Being from Lousiana he has perfected the art of cooking good ole fashion " Food for the Soul". Oh yes, and if you are thinking, no Chef Art's soul food does not compare to my mother's. In my book, no one can ever top my mothers good ole down south soul food.. I hope that you guys are enjoying my blog postings! Please leave me feed back and let me know what you think. Cheer! B.Rai~
